What is the difference between G4 flagstone, ledgestone and stacking stone?
Since 'natural stone' is not a manufactured material, we understand it can become confusing understanding different classifications of quarried stone. Here is how we differentiate the basic differences of flagstone, ledgestone and stacking stone at G4 Quarries Ltd.
First of all, FLAGSTONE is a general term used to describe large, flat pieces of stone used most commonly for landscape walkways, patios and interior or exterior flooring. There are many grades of flagstone but two terms that we use at G4 Quarries Ltd. refers to the size and how we package of the stone - Horizontal Patio and Standup Flagstone.
HORIZONTAL PATIO FLAGSTONE refers to irregular-sized stone, in 1'', 2'', 3'' or 5'' thickness. Horizontal Patio Flagstone (as well as Ledgestone) is typically palletized "laid-down" flat on a pallet usually at 3000lbs each, with the exception of 1'', which is packaged at 2500lbs per pallet.
STANDUP FLAGSTONE refers to larger size flat stone that may take two or more people to handle. Approximate average size will range from 2 square feet up to 20 square feet, with bed depths in 1'' or 2'' thicknesses only. Standup Flagstone is always palletized VERTICALLY - hence the description 'standup.' Stand up pallets are packaged at approximately 4600lbs plus and larger selected slabs are available.
Second of all, LEDGESTONE is a general term used to describe pieces of stone that can be applied to surfaces such as fireplaces and rock surrounds. We offer a wide variety of sizing, with trim stone and coping available.
Lastly, STACKING STONE is generally defined as highly graded stone that can be 'dry-stacked' (mortarless) to create structural retaining walls or landscape features.
Do you have stone samples?
Yes. We encourage you to take as many samples as you need. Please feel free to call our office to request stone sample(s).
How is stone sold?
Most of our products, specifically flagstone, ledgestone and retaining wall stone, are sold by weight, either by metric tonne or ton. We offer stone slabs/steps that are sold by square feet size and natural stone thin veneer is sold by the square foot and corners by linear foot.
How is stone delivered?
Flagstone and ledgestone are delivered on pallets on a flat deck truck. Retaining wall stone is delivered bulk usually on a tandem or truck and pup.
